Introduction to Media Scripts

photograph

This is a blog post the moderator won't look at, so I'm going to maximise the Unit 1-y goodness.

Mr. Knight is doing a John Major and going back to basics (we're starting off strong with another stolen Tommy joke). Pictured below: Mr. Knight:

What are scripts for? What information do they provide?
- So the people know what they are doing.
    - Actors
    - Editors
    - Literally everyone
- General planning purposes
    - Dialogue
    - Some cinematography notes
    - Some editing notes
    - General directions
- Ensure that a narrative flows well and the story is brought to life
- Ensure the final product will deliver its message effectively and to plan

How would a media production suffer if there wasn't a script? (A.K.A. inside Luke's head)
- Anarchy
- Confusion
- Disorder

Which media products use scripts?
- Films
- TV
- Some of radio
- Advertising (video and audio)

"Do you have YouTube videos?"
    - Tommy

"Very scripted."
    - Luke

- YouTube videos

- Sketches [I have stolen another Tommy joke]
- Bits of panel shows

- Oh yeah video games I forgot about those
    - Not all of them,

- Mr. Knight has managed to talk about comic books again somehow.
- Continuity announcers ('you're watching Travis TV')

Attempting to Write Scripts with no prior real knowledge which wasn't quite the task I don't think but oh well

First Thoughts on Six Script Types:

Willem DaFillum - Very linear and logical although I stand by the fact the play format is better and makes more sense and more use of the space.

TV Drama - What's all this wacky chicanery multiple characters' dialogue on one line?

Radio Drama - What's all this strange underlining? Although I suppose I should be happy because this is closer to the play format than the other ones.

Documentary - Separate sections for video and audio, I like this idea this seems useful for this format.

TV News - Good lord what is happening in there why is this so low resolution. This is all very vague with the video but concise with the audio, which makes sense because there's a lot of leeway really with what you can visually show.

Video Game - A horribly confusing flow chart-lookin' thing. Apart from the cutscenes, those are alright.

Big Epic Unit Planz:

Mr. Higgs' Excellent Wisdom (not you Mr. Knight):

Here's a picture of Chad Kroeger:

Or should I say...photograph!

Mr. Knight watched me do this and hoped there was context and it wasn't just 'here's a picture of Chad Kroeger'.
