Language of Scripts [Explain how different scripted elements are used to develop media products] (P1)
The modes of address used by media scripts varies quite substantially between genres and settings of the content. For example, the language used by characters in their dialogue will relate heavily to their character - a 20th century nobleman in a historical drama would speak in a far more formal tone than a teenager in a coming-of-age film.
'Direct' and 'indirect' tones can be used, with the former involving the writer speaking directly to the audience (using words such as 'you') and the latter not.
Restricted and elaborate codes can both be used, with restricted code being more general language intended to be understood by the general reader/listener - used in content intended for a wide and general audience - and elaborate code being more specialised and subject-specific to whatever topic is being covered.
